Top Fall Activities in Denver

Written by:

After a shockingly long and hot summer, fall is finally almost upon us. I’m not usually one to say that I’m glad that summer is over, but seeing as how it’s essentially been summer in Denver since February, I suppose this year is an exception.

Broncos Games at Mile High Stadium

Broncos games might be what I’m looking forward to most this fall, and their first game of the season is this Monday. I haven’t been to a football game in ages, and this year we might get to tailgate and get the full game day experience since I live only about a ten minute walk from the stadium.

This might not technically be an outdoor activity, but the stadium doesn’t have a roof so I’ll let it slide.

This was at a soccer game at Mile High earlier this year.

Fall Foliage Hikes

I’m a big fan of watching the trees change color, and where better to do that than in Colorado on a nice hiking trail? There are loads of hiking trails within a 30 minute drive from downtown Denver, and you could even do a quick hike in the evenings after work if you want.

I’m thinking I’ll give Mount Galbraith in Golden another go this autumn, its views of the surrounding area are some of the best.

Imagine the fall colors here…

Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge

I visited this wildlife refuge for the first time this past weekend, and it definitely did not disappoint. It’s maybe 15 minutes from downtown Denver, and you’ll be shocked to find a diverse habitat filled with eagles, deer, groundhogs and bison. If you’re lucky, the bison will come right up close to your vehicle as the herd moves across the plains. Stay in your vehicle though, of course.

Volo Leagues

Now that it’s not so insanely hot, a Volo league is a great way to stay in shape and meet new people. They have a bunch of different sports to choose from, each with leagues of varying sizes and competition levels, and usually you’ll have a great time whether you win or lose.

These were the views from my Volo soccer league earlier this summer.
