For us northern hemispherians, summer is slowly coming to an end. For Argentina, summer has only just begun. Here are a few of the best places to visit on a trip to Buenos Aires this summer.

Barrio Chino – Belgrano

Essentially the Chinatown of Buenos Aires, Barrio Chino is a great spot to get some incredible ramen as well as experience Chinese culture in Argentina. There are plenty of shops and restaurants to explore, and they even have one of the classic Chinese gates found in Chinese culture.

I also recommend hanging out in the Barrancas de Belgrano park across the street, it’s a great spot to people watch.

Caminito – La Boca

El Caminito is a historic and somewhat famous part of town featuring vibrant colors and showcasing the lively culture and rich history of Argentina. It’s considered an open-air museum, allowing visitors to see the place in which impoverished Italian immigrants landed in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. There’s quite the story behind the Caminito if you look into it, and it’s definitely worth visiting.

El Obelisco – San Nicolas

Perhaps the most iconic landmark in Buenos Aires, El Obelisco is the towering monolith at the intersection of the city’s two most important streets and three of its subway lines. For us from the U.S., it’s very similar to the Washington Monument except it was built to commemorate Buenos Aires’ 400th year as a city.

La Recoleta Cemetery – Recoleta

If you’re a history buff, this is the number one spot you need to visit in Buenos Aires. Countless historical figures have been buried in the Recoleta Cemetery, and if you take the guided tour they’ll tell you the fascinating stories of each tomb.

Libreria El Ateneo – Recoleta

Being a fan of reading and literature, I loved this spot since it’s a bookstore built into an old theatre. There are multiple floors going up into where the balcony seating would have been, and it’s a cool sight to see looking down on the bookstore from the upper levels. Of course, almost all of the books are in Spanish, but it’s still an awesome place to explore.
