Large crowd gathered at night watching hundreds of glowing sky lanterns rise into the dark sky, creating a stunning display of warm lights floating upward like stars.

Outdoor Summer Activities in the St. Louis Area

Written by:

Since summer has almost arrived here in Colorado, that means that summer has almost definitely arrived in Missouri. So, I figured I’d put together a list of activities that I really enjoyed in the summers when I lived in the St. Louis area.

Now that I’ve moved out of the Midwest, I really get nostalgic for nice summer nights there. I feel like they carry a level of modest contentment that feels more real than most other places in the US, but that could just be me reminiscing. While Colorado is a beautiful state (and much prettier than Missouri, in my opinion) there are still things to love and miss about life in MO.

Cardinals & City F.C. Games

While I suppose baseball and soccer games can only kind of be considered as outdoor activities, I figured I would put them on here because they’re played in open-air stadiums and also great summer activities. Since the Rams left, the city has had a huge sports fanbase that yearns for a place to put their team spirit, so most of that has gone to the Cardinals or STL City F.C. The games are a great time, and the atmosphere is always tons of fun.

Horse Races at Fairmount Park

I went to the horse races a couple of times last summer and it’s a whole lot of fun, especially if you go with a group. They put on a pretty good show at Fairmount Park in Collinsville, and it makes for a nice and chill afternoon/evening at the races. Get some money on the line, drink a few drinks, and you’ll have a great time.

Music on Main

Music on Main on history Main Street in St. Charles is a recurring event throughout the summer where bands play live music in the streets and hundreds of people hang out and listen to the music. The event is always free to attend but bring a lawn chair with you to set up in the street. The vibes are always great and it’s one of those events that really makes you realize how underrated life in the Midwest truly is.

Lantern Festivals

While it may be a bit of a ways outside of the city, it’s still an amazing way to spend a nice summer evening. If you’re a longtime reader of the blog, you know that I was blown away by the event back when I attended back in October, and it has stuck in my mind ever since. Night Lights is a lantern festival that also has food trucks and activities as well as it takes place at Cedar Lake Cellars winery so you can enjoy a nice glass of wine or two while you’re there.

Thank you for reading! I hope you enjoyed the post, and I hope you enjoy your time in St. Louis! I surely did.
