Since, as a bartender, I’m always asked for bar recommendations in St. Charles by out-of-towners, I figured I’d make a list of the best places to go if you’re looking for a glimpse of the town’s bar scene. Some of these are divey-er than others (you can judge a bar on how divey it is if they don’t have a website – only a Facebook page) but nonetheless they are all good spots.
Unfortunately, since it’s technically in St. Peters and not St. Charles I can’t put it on the list, but Parrots Bar & Grill off of highway 364 is another one of my favorites.
Big A’s
If you’re looking to play some pool and eat some wings, Big A’s is the spot to go. Their kitchen is open later than most on Main Street, so if you are in need of a late-night snack on a night out then I highly recommend heading here. It’s a great spot to hang out, with a laid-back vibe and super friendly staff, and plenty of locals to talk to.

Kubrick’s
My personal favorite on this list, Kubrick’s is an interesting Stanley Kubrick themed bar with tons of real movie props, Kubrick filmography murals on the walls, and great movies constantly playing on the TVs. There are Wiis and other gaming consoles to play games on, a nice balcony up top, and the bartenders are always fun to talk to regarding movies or TV. If you’re a cinephile, this is the perfect place for you.

Lindenwood Pub
This is the only bar on this list that isn’t on Main Street, and therefore it’s usually the least popular (and the cheapest). The crowd here is much older, usually people that have spent their whole lives in St. Charles and know the bartender and the bartender’s parents, but that also leads to a pretty chill atmosphere.
Mr. Thirsty’s
The last bar on the north side of Main Street, Mr. Thirsty’s is a very spacious bar with great prices and friendly staff. They also typically have 3-6 different types of house shots, multiple of those being some sort of banana pepper or pickle shots which is always interesting. However, their apple cider shots are a must-try.
Old Millstream Inn
Now going back to the complete opposite end of Main Street, Millstream is a pretty old bar with a good-sized patio and a great spot to spend an evening regardless of the season. There are always good vibes here, and it’s a substantial distance away from the busy part of Main Street so it’s safe from the tomfoolery but also not completely empty.
Thank you for reading! Let me know in the comments what you think of these bars, and don’t forget to like and follow for a new post every Wednesday.
Have a great week!
