After spending my last spring break of my college career in Austin, I figured I’d give some recommendations for the spring breakers out there looking for a place to go. Austin is a great city to visit, with lots to do and not unbearably hot in the spring, and I’m sure you won’t regret spending a week here on your break from school.
However, since I only spent a week here, I do have a very naive and inexperienced understanding of the city, so if you’re a local you might be able to tell just by reading this lol.
Rent a Kayak/Canoe in Barton Creek
On Barton Creek, next to Zilker Metropolitan Park, is Zilker Park Boat Rentals where you can rent a kayak, canoe or paddleboard for a nice summer day out on the river. Barton Creek feeds right into the Colorado River, so you have all the space in the world to explore, relax, or have a nice picnic on the water with your friends.
See a Show at the Comedy Mothership
Joe Rogan’s Comedy Mothership is probably the most well-known comedy club in Austin, with people from all over the country and even the world traveling there to see a show. The club definitely lives up to its reputation in my opinion, with hilarious shows, big-name headliners and sometimes even funnier openers making this a comedy experience you’ll likely never forget.
That being said, I highly recommend getting tickets far in advance if there’s someone specific that you’d like to see. With the club’s popularity comes ticket scarcity, and since it’s a pretty intimate club, tickets sell out fast.
It’s also a no-phone club, meaning you’ll have to put your phone in a sealed cloth packet, which only adds to the intimate and exclusive feel of the club. You also run the risk of bumping into a celebrity in the lobby or at the bar, like how I ran into Tony Hinchcliffe before he went up on stage.

Take a Walk Down 6th STREET
If you’re looking for a place to spend a Friday or Saturday night, 6th Street is probably the place to go. It has tons of restaurants, bars with live music, and often street performers making it a lively experience for anyone from out of town. It’s also the street that the Comedy Mothership is situated on, so I highly recommend seeing a show there and then exploring the street.
As always, thanks for reading! Let me know in the comments if there’s something I missed (I’m sure there is), and hit the follow button for a new post every Wednesday at 12pm CST!
Have a great week!
