Since I was back home in Carver County this past weekend, I figured I’d make a post about some good local coffee shops that you should visit during your time in this pleasant rural Minnesota area. There may not be many to choose from, but these definitely hit the spot.
Getaway Motor Cafe
The first and my personal favorite on this list is the Getaway Motor Cafe in old town Carver. It’s a nice little corner coffee shop with a good-sized patio and great coffee, and there are always good vibes here. They also make their own syrups for their coffee, which I always appreciate.
The shop also turns into a cocktail bar after 4pm and hosts food trucks and live music, so it really is the best spot to spend a nice summer evening.

I also highly recommend walking along the path next to the shop, it has a great view overlooking the river!
Mocha Monkey
Mocha Monkey is probably the most well-known coffee shop in Waconia, seeing as it was the first coffee shop in town and it’s locally owned and operated. It’s right across from the movie theater in downtown Waconia, and it really doesn’t get more small-town Minnesota than this. The inside is super cozy and very rustic, with a nice fireplace that you’ll definitely want to sit by in the winter time. They’re also open until 6pm almost every day, so you have plenty of time to get some work done here.
They also have locations in St. Bonifacius and Carver if you’d like to check those ones out too.
Ruby’s Roost
Ruby’s Roost is a very small coffee shop in downtown Victoria. It’s a nice place to hang out and get some work done, with a good view of Victoria’s main drag, and plenty of sunlight.
My only problem with this coffee shop is the hours. They’re only open past 1pm on Saturday and Sunday, and they’re closed on Mondays. So if you’re looking to stay a little later, check out the other options on this list.
While it’s not the most extensive list, I figured I’d make a guide for those of you that need it. Let me know if you have any other Carver County coffee recommendations in the comments below, and I’ll see you next Wednesday!
Also, I just launched an Instagram page for the blog, so you can check it out at @theboardingpassblog or click on the Instagram icon below.
Have a great week!
