Night Life in Stuttgart Germany

After living in the industrial city of Stuttgart for a while, there comes a time when you are desperately in need of a night out. And while there aren’t a whole lot of options, here are some of the bars/clubs that I tried out and whether or not I recommend them.

Dilayla

Nicknamed “The Subway Club” by my classmates since it’s right next door to a Subway, this is a tiny underground night club that can be hit or miss. The DJs are only sometimes good, but if they’re good then it’s a great place to dance. There’s no cover, so you can feel it out and stay if you like. The bouncers have an attitude though.

The only good picture I have of the inside of any of these places.

Kowalski

I only went here once and it was for an end-of-school-year party, but it was a great time. The lighting is really cool and there’s lots of room to dance or to chill and hang out. From what I remember the drinks are a little pricey, but still a good time nonetheless and it’s right next to the hauptbahnhof (main train station) so you shouldn’t have a hard time getting back to wherever you’re staying.

Mata Hari

This is where the majority of my nights out were spent during my five months stay in Stuttgart. It’s a great bar to hang out at and chill with friends, and the music is usually pretty good. Sometimes it can take a while to get a drink, but that’s the only downside of this bar in my opinion.

Mata Hari and the bars around it is, from my experience, the most popular area on the weekends. There are several bars and night clubs around Mata Hari, including one right next door, that are good choices however I have been unable to find their names anywhere. The street in front of Mata Hari is usually packed with people on the weekend nights, so it’s easy to meet people. Regardless, I’d say this is the best spot to be in if you’re looking for a chill night out in Stuttgart.

Oblomow

This is a solid choice since they’re usually open all night long and the music is usually pretty good. I could be biased since I have some fond memories with friends here, but either way it’s not a bad spot. The downside of this bar is that people can smoke inside, so your clothes reek after spending any time here.

Stuttgart may seem like a pretty boring and industrial city, trust me I thought so too, but there are quite a few hidden gems if you look hard enough.

Have fun!
